The bluefin trevally, Caranx melampygus, is a large marine fish in the jack family, Carangidae. It occurs in tropical Indian and Pacific Ocean waters, from Eastern Africa to Central America. Adults have electric blue fins and blue and black side spots, while juveniles lack these obvious colours. It inhabits coastal and offshore reefs and is a predator that mainly eats fish, with cephalopods and crustaceans also part of its diet.
