David is a marble sculpture created by Michelangelo between 1501 and 1504. Standing 5.17 metres high, it was the first colossal marble statue made in the High Renaissance and the first since classical antiquity. Originally commissioned for Florence Cathedral, it was unveiled in front of the Piazza della Signoria in 1504. It was moved to the Galleria dell'Accademia in Florence in 1873.
