The red fox (Vulpes vulpes) is the largest true fox and is widely distributed across the Northern Hemisphere. It occurs in North America, Europe, Asia and parts of North Africa, and has been introduced to Australia. Adaptable to new environments, it lives in pairs or small family groups and feeds mainly on small rodents, while also eating varied animal and plant foods. It is listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.
