The September 11 attacks were condemned by world leaders, political and religious representatives, international media, and governments worldwide. Countries often regarded as hostile to the United States, including Cuba, Iran, Syria, Libya, North Korea, and Afghanistan, also condemned them. Memorials and services were held around the world. Many countries introduced anti-terrorism laws and froze accounts suspected of connections to al-Qaeda or its leader, Osama bin Laden.
