  • Birds of Prey

The peregrine falcon (Falco peregrinus) is a large, crow-sized bird of prey in the family Falconidae. It has a blue-grey back, barred white underparts, and a black head. Its breeding range extends from Arctic tundra to the tropics, and it is absent only from a few extreme habitats and New Zealand. Peregrines often use tall buildings for nesting in urban areas. Populations recovered in many areas after DDT was banned and nesting sites were protected.
