Le Corbusier was the name of Charles-Édouard Jeanneret, a French-Swiss architectural designer, painter, urban planner and writer. Regarded as a pioneer of modern architecture, he designed buildings in Europe, Japan, India and the Americas over a five-decade career. He helped found the Congrès International d'Architecture Moderne and prepared Chandigarh's master plan. His work and political associations have also remained subjects of criticism and contention.
