The guppy (Poecilia reticulata), also called the millionfish or rainbow fish, is a livebearing member of the family Poeciliidae. Native to northeast South America, it has been introduced widely and is now found around the world. Males are smaller than females and have ornamental caudal and dorsal fins. Wild guppies eat foods including benthic algae and aquatic insect larvae, and the species is used in ecology, evolution, and behavioural studies.
