Caudoviricetes is a class of viruses also known as tailed viruses or head-tail viruses. It is the sole representative of the phylum Uroviricota. These group I viruses have double-stranded DNA genomes ranging from 18,000 to 500,000 base pairs. Each virion has an icosahedral head containing its genome, connected by a protein to a flexible tail. Their shared structure and potentially homologous genes suggest a common origin.
