Olympia, officially Archaia Olympia, is a small town in Elis on Greece’s Peloponnese peninsula, known for its adjacent archaeological site. In antiquity, the site was a major Panhellenic religious sanctuary centered on Zeus and hosted the ancient Olympic Games every four years from the 8th century BC to the 4th century AD. Its surviving ruins include a stadium, while many movable artifacts are held in three site museums.
