Saudi Arabia, officially the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, is a country in West Asia occupying most of the Arabian Peninsula. Its capital and largest city is Riyadh, and Mecca and Medina are Islam’s two holiest cities. Founded in 1932 by King Abdulaziz, it has been governed as an absolute monarchy under the House of Saud. Petroleum, discovered in 1938, made it a major oil producer and exporter.
