Józef Unrug, born Joseph von Unruh, was a German-born Polish admiral. He commanded submarines in the Imperial German Navy during World War I and helped create Poland's navy after Polish independence. During the opening stages of World War II, he was commander-in-chief of the Polish Navy. Held as a German prisoner of war, he refused offers to change sides and was imprisoned in several Oflags, including Colditz Castle.
