A Whitehall rowboat is a lapstrake-built style of rowing boat developed in the United States during the 19th century. Its design has older European ancestry and resembles a sailing ship's gig or a Thames river wherry. Whitehall rowboats were first made near Whitehall Street in New York City, where they ferried goods and people to ships in New York Harbor. They range from 14 to 22 feet long, with a larger 25-foot gig requiring five crew members.
