Calidris is a genus of small to medium-sized, Arctic-breeding wading birds in the family Scolopacidae. Strongly migratory, they form large mixed flocks on coasts and estuaries in winter. They are generally long-winged and relatively short-billed, with brownish upperparts and lighter underparts. Their flexible, sensitive-tipped bills help them locate buried prey while running and probing.
