Greece in the Roman era

Greece in the Roman era refers to the period from the Roman Republic's conquest of mainland Greece in 146 BC through the later division of the Roman Empire. Roman control followed the Macedonian Wars and the defeat at the Battle of Corinth. Greece was first dominated by the Roman Republic, then by the Roman Empire. Constantine the Great made Byzantium, later Constantinople, the imperial capital in 330 AD. After 395 AD, Greece formed part of the Eastern Roman Empire's Greco-Roman culture.
