Trajan, born Marcus Ulpius Traianus, was a Roman emperor from AD 98 to 117 and the second of the Five Good Emperors of the Nerva-Antonine dynasty. A successful soldier-emperor, he oversaw major territorial expansion, including the annexation of Nabataea and Dacia. His reign also included building projects, social welfare expansion, and wars against the Parthian Empire. At his death, the Roman Empire had reached its maximum territorial extent.
