Nazi Germany was the German state ruled by Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party from 1933 to 1945. The regime concentrated power in Hitler's hands, pursued rearmament and territorial expansion, and began World War II in Europe by invading Poland. Its ideology centred on racism, eugenics and antisemitism. Genocide, mass murder and forced labour culminated in the Holocaust. Germany capitulated in 1945 after defeat by the Allies.
