Palestine, officially the State of Palestine, is a country in the Southern Levant of West Asia. It encompasses the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip, which are occupied by Israel. Jerusalem is its proclaimed capital, while Ramallah is its de facto administrative center. Palestine is a permanent non-member observer state at the United Nations and is recognized as a sovereign state by 157 UN member states.
