Harriet Leveson-Gower, Countess Granville

Harriet Leveson-Gower, Countess Granville, was a British society hostess and writer. Born Lady Henrietta Elizabeth Cavendish, she was the younger daughter of Lady Georgiana Spencer and William Cavendish, 5th Duke of Devonshire. She married the diplomat Granville Leveson-Gower in 1809 and had five children. While he served intermittently as British ambassador to France, she carried out social duties in Paris. Her letters describe aristocratic and diplomatic life in the 19th century.
