Jean Jaurès

Jean Jaurès was a French socialist leader, politician, professor, journalist, writer and historian. Initially a Moderate Republican, he later became a social democrat and a reformist possibilist. He led the French Socialist Party from 1902, before its 1905 merger into the French Section of the Workers' International. An antimilitarist and heterodox Marxist, he was assassinated in 1914 at the outbreak of World War I.
