A plantar wart, also called a verruca, is a wart that occurs on the bottom of the foot or toes. It is caused by human papillomavirus infection entering through a break in the skin. Plantar warts may have small black surface dots and can make walking difficult when pressure causes pain. Treatment is generally needed only for symptoms, and some resolve without specific treatment.
