Theodore Roosevelt Jr. was the 26th president of the United States, serving from 1901 to 1909 after William McKinley's assassination. The youngest person to hold the office at his first inauguration, he promoted the Square Deal, antitrust action, railroad regulation, food and drug standards, and conservation. He also began construction of the Panama Canal and won the 1906 Nobel Peace Prize for efforts to end the Russo-Japanese War.
