A cloud forest is a generally tropical or subtropical evergreen montane forest characterized by persistent, frequent or seasonal low cloud cover at canopy level. Also called a water forest or tropical montane cloud forest, it often has abundant mosses and supports many endemic species. Fog drip can supplement rainfall, making these forests important freshwater sources. Cloud forests face threats from deforestation, agricultural encroachment and climate change.
