  • Exoplanets

An exoplanet, or extrasolar planet, is a planet outside the Solar System. The first confirmed exoplanet detection was made around a pulsar in 1992, while the first detection around a main-sequence star followed in 1995. Transit photometry and Doppler spectroscopy have found the most exoplanets, although they favor large planets close to their stars. Exoplanets are studied for their composition, environmental conditions and potential habitability.
