The black robin, also called the Chatham Island robin, is an endangered bird from the Chatham Islands off New Zealand’s east coast. Its scientific name is Petroica traversi, and it is closely related to the South Island robin. First described by Walter Buller in 1872, it has somewhat reduced flight capacity. It became extinct on the main Chatham island before 1871 and was thereafter restricted to Little Mangere Island and Rangatira Island.
