Blackout Tuesday was a collective action held on June 2, 2020, to protest racism and police brutality. It was originally organized within the music industry in response to the murder of George Floyd, the murder of Ahmaud Arbery, and the killing of Breonna Taylor. Participating businesses were encouraged to pause music releases and other operations. Some outlets used blacked out, silent, or minimal programming for 8 minutes and 46 seconds.
