The Merchant Venturer was a named British Railways train that ran during eleven summer seasons from 3 May 1951 to 9 September 1961. Created as a Festival of Britain excursion from London on the Western Region, it travelled to Bristol and onward to Weston-super-Mare. It was paired with The William Shakespeare and used British Railways carriages in carmine and cream livery. First Great Western revived the name in 2009 for a London Paddington–Penzance service via Bristol.
