GlmY RNA, formally known as tke1, is a family of bacterial RNA genes around 167 bases long. It occurs in Escherichia coli, Shigella flexneri, Yersinia pestis and Salmonella species, between the yfhK and purL genes. GlmY activates GlmS synthesis by regulating the sRNA GlmZ. As an anti-adaptor, it binds RapZ and prevents RapZ from directing GlmZ cleavage by RNase E. GlmY mutants are sensitive to cell envelope stress.
