Influenza A disease primarily affecting birds
Rare
Avian influenza, or bird flu, is a disease caused by influenza A virus. It primarily affects birds, especially wild aquatic birds, but can sometimes infect mammals including humans. Severity varies by virus strain and affected species. The virus can spread rapidly among poultry flocks and wild birds. Humans are usually infected after prolonged close contact with infected animals, although other routes have been linked to some cases.
