John Tenniel

Sir John Tenniel was an English illustrator, graphic humourist and political cartoonist active in the second half of the 19th century. He worked for Punch for more than 50 years, becoming its chief cartoonist in 1864. He also illustrated the first editions of Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass. Knighted in 1893, he was the first illustrator or cartoonist to receive that honour.
