Clockwise, abbreviated CW, is one of the two possible senses of two-dimensional rotation. Relative to an observer, it proceeds from the top to the right, then downward, leftward, and back to the top, matching the movement of a clock’s hands. Its opposite is called anticlockwise in Commonwealth English and counterclockwise in North American English. Similar senses can be defined for three-dimensional rotation using the corresponding angular velocity vector.
