Ordered by President Donald Trump, it killed Soleimani, an Iranian major general and Quds Force commander, as well as five Iraqi and four other Iranian nationals, including Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis. The strike escalated tensions between the United States and Iran and drew disputes over its legality and effects on Iraqi sovereignty.
