Arkazhsky Monastery was an important monastery of medieval Novgorod the Great, located about two miles south of the city, west of Yuriev Monastery. Founded in 1153 by Arkadii before he became bishop of Novgorod, it included churches built or rebuilt by patrons over several centuries. Only the Church of the Assumption of the Mother of God remains. Soviet archaeologists excavated the medieval monastery's foundations in 1961.
