The 238th Rifle Division was a Red Army infantry division formed before the German invasion of the Soviet Union. Its first formation defended Tula, joined the Soviet counteroffensive near Moscow, and was redesignated as the 30th Guards Rifle Division in May 1942. A second formation served in operations including Operation Mars and Operation Kutuzov, advanced through Belarus and Poland, helped liberate Gdańsk, and was disbanded in July 1945.
