  • Currencies

The Swiss franc has been Liechtenstein's currency since 1920, under its customs and monetary union with Switzerland. A 1980 treaty permits Liechtenstein to mint limited Swiss franc commemorative coins bearing a Liechtenstein inscription, but not to issue banknotes. Earlier currencies included the Austro-Hungarian and Austrian krone and heller. Liechtenstein coins are rare and generally do not circulate.
