The Ponary massacre, also called the Paneriai massacre, was the mass murder of up to 100,000 people near Ponary, now Paneriai, a suburb of Vilnius, Lithuania. It was carried out by German SD and SS forces and Lithuanian Ypatingasis būrys killing squads between July 1941 and August 1944. Victims were mostly Jews, Poles and Russians, including Soviet prisoners of war. About 70,000 Jews were murdered at Ponary.
