No. 16 Squadron was a fighter squadron of the Royal New Zealand Air Force. It formed at RNZAF Base Woodbourne in July 1942 and operated Curtiss P-40 Kittyhawks, later replacing them with F4U Corsairs. During the Second World War, it flew combat operations against Japanese forces in the Southwest Pacific theatre. After hostilities ceased, the squadron returned to New Zealand and was disbanded in October 1945.
