Built in 1762, it stands on a terrace of a hill overlooking the Poggioreale neighborhood. It was constructed near the then-dilapidated Villa Poggio Reale and is close to the monumental Cemetery of Poggioreale, built over the ruined villa. The architect was the Florentine Ferdinando Fuga.
