Albert Einstein was a German-born theoretical physicist best known for developing the theory of relativity. He also made important contributions to quantum theory, including work on the photoelectric effect, radiation, and Bose–Einstein statistics. In 1905 he published four papers on the photoelectric effect, Brownian motion, special relativity, and mass-energy equivalence. He received the 1921 Nobel Prize in Physics and later became an American citizen.
