Hurricane Belle was a strong tropical cyclone that affected the East Coast of the United States in August 1976. It formed near the Bahamas, reached peak winds of 120 mph (190 km/h), and made landfall on Long Island as a minimal hurricane. Belle later crossed Connecticut as a strong tropical storm and became extratropical over New England. Flooding, high winds, and power outages caused 12 deaths and an estimated $100 million in damage.
