The New Hebrides Trench, also called the South New Hebrides Trench, is an oceanic trench in the Southern Pacific Ocean. It lies northeast of New Caledonia and the Loyalty Islands and southwest of Vanuatu. Formed at a subduction zone, it is associated with the Australian plate descending beneath the New Hebrides plate, a process that produced the Vanuatu archipelago. It was first described in 1962 and explored in greater detail in 2013.
