  • Venomous Snakes

The king cobra (Ophiophagus hannah) is a species complex of snakes endemic to Asia and the world’s longest venomous snake. It occurs from the Indian subcontinent through Southeast Asia to southern China. Despite its name and resemblance, it is not phylogenetically a true cobra. It chiefly eats other snakes and is the only ophidian known to build an above-ground nest for its eggs. Habitat destruction has contributed to its Vulnerable IUCN status since 2010.
