The common ostrich (Struthio camelus) is a flightless bird native to certain areas of Africa and historically Arabia. It is the largest living bird and one of two extant ostrich species. Distinguished by its long neck and legs, it can sustain running at 55 km/h and reach short bursts of about 70 km/h. Its diet is mainly plant matter, supplemented by invertebrates and small reptiles, and it lives in nomadic groups.
