The orca (Orcinus orca), also called the killer whale, is the only extant species in the genus Orcinus and the largest member of the oceanic dolphin family. It occurs in marine environments worldwide and has black upper parts, a white underside and white eye patches. Orcas are apex predators with varied diets, and many populations form stable matrilineal pods with distinctive hunting techniques and vocal behaviours.
