Houston is the most populous city in Texas and the Southern United States, with 2.3 million people recorded in the 2020 census. Located in Southeast Texas near Galveston Bay and the Gulf of Mexico, it is the county seat of Harris County. Founded in 1836 and incorporated in 1837, Houston developed as a trading center and later expanded through its port, energy, healthcare, research, manufacturing, aeronautics, and transportation sectors.
