Guam, known as Guåhan in Chamorro, is an organized, unincorporated territory of the United States in the western Pacific Ocean. Its capital is Hagåtña and its most populous village is Dededo. It is the largest island in Micronesia and the largest and southernmost of the Mariana Islands. Indigenous Guamanians are Chamorro. Guam was colonized by Spain, ceded to the United States in 1899, and was occupied by Japan during World War II.
