The 1979 Wichita Falls tornado was a violent F4 tornado that struck Wichita Falls, Texas, on April 10, 1979. Part of a wider Red River Valley tornado outbreak, it reached up to 1.5 miles (2.4 km) wide and caused severe destruction across the city. The tornado directly caused 42 fatalities, while three additional people later died of heart attacks. Damage was estimated at $400 million.
