  • Operating Systems

A login session is the period of activity between a user logging in and logging out of a multi-user operating system. On Unix and Unix-like systems, it may be a kernel session for a textual interface or the lifetime of a user process launched by an X display manager. On Windows NT-based systems, logon sessions are maintained by the kernel and overseen by the Local Security Authority Subsystem Service.
