The impala, also called rooibok, is a medium-sized antelope found in eastern and southern Africa and the only extant member of its genus and tribe. Two subspecies are recognised: the common impala and the darker black-faced impala. It lives in woodlands and woodland–savannah ecotones near water, feeds by browsing and grazing, and uses characteristic leaps as an anti-predator strategy. The species is listed as least concern, while the black-faced subspecies is vulnerable.
