The American bullfrog (Lithobates catesbeianus) is a large frog in the true frog family, Ranidae, native to eastern North America. It lives mainly in permanent water bodies, including swamps, ponds, lakes, and some human-made habitats. A generalist carnivore, it is also prey for alligators, snakes, and birds. Introduced beyond its native range as a food source, it is considered invasive in many places because of its appetite and high egg production.
