Hemiarius verrucosus, known as the shovelnose sea catfish, is a catfish species in the family Ariidae. Described in 2003, it was originally placed in the genus Arius. It occurs in rivers and estuaries associated with the Mekong basin and has been reported from Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. In Thailand it is believed to have become extinct around 1992 to 1997, possibly because a water-control dam blocked movement away from rising salinity.
